A simple and rewarding slow cooker recipe for rich, flavorful apple butter without peeling the apples.

Ingredients

  • 10 cups apples, chopped (no peeling required)
  • 1 cup apple cider or water
  • 1 cup sugar (optional or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped apples in the slow cooker and add the apple cider or water.
  2. Stir in the sugar (if using), cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and lemon juice.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours until the apples are soft and the mixture has thickened.
  4. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth, or leave it chunky if preferred.
  5. Transfer to jars and let cool completely before storing in the refrigerator.
  6. Serve on toast, pancakes, or use in baking.

Notes

Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor. Adjust spices as desired and consider using maple syrup as a sweetener.
